| Substitute Teachers |

Teachers can submit lesson plans online for their subs. The school secretary can print the lesson plans and seating charts for all the absent teachers at once. And substitute teachers have a special login to enter attendance online and leave feedback for the teacher. (This is not related to the Lesson Plans feature.)
Substitute teachers do not have regular usernames and passwords. Instead a random password is printed on their lesson plans, which works only that one day for those particular classes.
On the screen, select which classes you'll be absent for which date, and type your instructions for the sub. You may optionally print these for your sub, but this is optional, since your school secretary can print them for you (i.e., you can submit your instructions from home the night before, and the secretary can print them the next morning). Also you should type Emergency Instructions here, in case you are absent unexpectedly. Check "Subs should enter roll online" if you want, or your school admin may always require this.
You may return to this screen later to see the feedback the substitute typed for you. You may also use this to look up who your subs were on past dates
Every morning, click the tab to see if any teachers have left lesson plans for their subs. This screen shows how many teachers have submitted plans for the current day — e.g. "Plans for Subs Today (3)" means 3 teachers. Click that report to print their lesson plans and seating charts (all absent teachers are included in one print job). This also prints the teachers' class schedules with times and room numbers. If a teacher is absent, but they did not leave lesson plans, you can still select them. It will print their Emergency Instructions, seating charts, and schedule.
Check "Require all substitutes to enter attendance online" if applicable. Or leave it unchecked to let each teacher set this option for their own classes.
The secretary will hand you the teacher's class schedule, which includes the web address to login (jupitergrades.com/sub) and your password (no username required). Click the tab for each class to enter attendance and lunch counts. (These options may be missing if not applicable.)
At the end of the day, click the "Feedback" tab to leave a note for the teacher. This will be emailed to the teacher.
Each password is unique to one teacher on one date, so it does not need a username. The password works only on that specific date. If your district has a static IP address set on the screen, then substitute teachers must use a computer on your campus network (so they cannot login from off-campus).
Subs should keep the password in their pocket for security. If a student happens to see the sub's password, the worst they could do is alter attendance for that teacher on that date. In this case your system admin can always review changes to the attendance and change it back. Also the student might alter the feedback to the teacher, in which case the teacher could always refer back to the original email from the sub. |
