Import Data Index

On the screen, admins can import different types of data:

•  Students
•  Classes
•  Student Photos
•  Staff
•  Transcripts

This is usually imported for the whole school or district at once. (Individual teachers should not use this to import their own students. Instead they should simply add a list of students on the screen of their gradebooks.)

Below is general data format requirements for all imports. Click the links above to see details about the specific data columns accepted.

Upload Data File

Typically you will export a data file from your 3rd-party Student Information System (SIS) and upload it into Jupiter. Each SIS is different, but they all generally have a feature to "Export" a "Query".

Almost any file format can be imported:

•  .txt, .csv, or .dat text file
•  Tab or Comma delimited
•  Windows/DOS or Unix/Mac OS X line breaks (but not Mac OS 9)
•  UTF-8 character set (needed only if accented characters like in "RenĂ©e")
•  Header row makes it easier, but it's not required
(exact column names are not important)
•  Data must be organized in rows and columns (in any order)
•  Must be contiguous rows of data without page-breaks.
•  Okay to include multiple schools in the same file.

Copy Spreadsheet or Table

Alternatively you can copy data from a spreadsheet or text table. In your spreadsheet or text document, select the cells or text, Copy, then Paste it into the text box on the webpage. It may look jumbled when you paste it, but it'll be sorted out when imported.

•  Header row makes it easier, but it's not required
(exact column names are not important)
•  Must be contiguous rows and columns (in any order)
•  Okay to include multiple schools.

Note: Only users who are skilled with computers and data files should attempt to import data. You must have the permission for "Enrollment & scheduling" on the screen for each school where you are importing data.
